Featuring the distinctive new voices from Denmark and Australia, the five piece collaboration Vulkan explores lyrical Nordic sounds and adventurous modern jazz grooves. They first formed their rapturous musical rapport in 2013 when Jens, Jakob (from Denmark) and Luke and Aidan (from Australia) all lived in the energetic Berlin music scene. In 2015 they toured Australia and this year are touring their album ‘Venting’ which is on Gateway Music label. Drawing together fragile melodies and explosive fervency Vulkan present a rich and energetic set of original compositions.

You might know trumpeter Jakob Sørensen by his incredibly beautiful sound and composition, who recently was awarded the New Danish Jazz Artist by DPA. Guitarist Jens Fisker recently toured with his Berlin group The Four Corners Projekt and in 2012 he recorded his first album Xylop going on to receive Jazz Musician of the Year in his region. Luke Sweeting on piano is highly celebrated for his melodic-improv album Amoroso with the Grey Wing Trio and has toured in Australia and Europe with bands like Svelia and Antipodes. Vulkan's big-sound bassist, Max Alduca is known for his work in modern jazz line-ups such as Warwick Alders Jazznostics as well as his explorations into raw improvised textures and free-music with Dave Ellis's Bass Liberation Orchestra.
